How it Works: Custom Tax Exemption Form
To facilitate the tax exemption process, we created a user-friendly submission page within the client’s BigCommerce store. On the cart page, customers first see a message prompting them to upload their tax exemption information.
This leads to a dedicated page where customers can easily submit their tax exemption details. The form includes fields for:
- Exemption Reason
- Exposure Zone
- Signed Date
- Expiration Date
- Document Upload (exemption certificate)
The submission page, designed to match the aesthetics of our client’s website, can also include any additional content provided by the client, ensuring a cohesive and branded user experience.
Seamless Integration with Avalara and Other Tax Providers
To ensure accurate processing of the tax exemption data, we integrated the submission form with Avalara‘s API. This sends the information collected directly to Avalara’s Tax app, where submitted certificates are stored in the ‘Incoming Certificates to Review’ menu.
Customers who submit a form for a specific state are automatically made tax-exempt for that state at checkout, simplifying the process for both the customer and the business.
In addition to Avalara, our tax exemption solution can be customized for most tax applications or providers.
